President's Report

GETTING CLOSER TO 2021. yeah!!!

Our Chapter is still adapting to constant changing climate concerning our Chapter meetings. As we found out last week, things change on a dime.

Our first presenter, Bil Talerico, covered "Effective Communication in a Remote Environment". This was a perfect presentation on the struggles ALL of us must be facing with the current COVID-workplace situations we are in currently.

Our second presenter, Eric Fair, covered " 'Data Privacy' Regulations and Best Practices". With our ever dependence working in an online world and our ever growing national & global payroll systems, this presentation provides some very eye-opening findings.

I look forward to inviting both to future Chapter meetings so we may properly thank them for their time and efforts during a very difficult time and stepping up in our time of need.

This month, the slideshows from all the presentations are not available for our website. Anyone wishing to listen to our Chapter meeting along with the slide show may check out our video portfolio. The video link is available under our Resources page.

It's never to late to renew your membership for 2020. All 2019 memberships lost access to our website at the end of March. Renew today and enjoy all the benefits of your local Chapter. Annual dues are $60 per person. We will always have the Black Friday special after the November meeting and offer a $10 discount if membership is renewed by December 31st. A rock bottom rate for everyone!

The Chapter is seeking a new Chapter President. This vital role leads the vision and direction of the Chapter. This important position would serve a term of January 2021 - December 2023. Please consider volunteering and stamping YOUR fingerprint on the growth of our Chapter. Deadline to register for the election will be October 23rd at 5 pm.

The Chapter will complete an online election for President from October 26 - October 30 cutting off at 5 pm. Results will be announced at the Statewide Conference the following week.

The Chapter is also seeking an Education Director. This individual is responsible for procuring our speakers and upholding the core Chapter mission of supplying RCH education to our members. We have worked very hard to make this a yearly committment of 18 RCHs. This is very valuable for our members and speaks volumes to the quality of our Chapter

The Chapter is also seeking a Secretary. This individual would serve as the communication voice of our Chapter. Creation and the distribution of the newsletter and keeping the minutes of Board meeting are the main duties of this important position.

As you may see, a little by a select few and truly benefit the many. Step up and serve your Chapter today.

The Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Chapter of the APA is offering a unique opportunity for all APA members. Due to the current COVID-business climate, their 26th Annual Wage & Hour Seminar is available for the low price of $90 for 6 RCHs.

The 2020 Wage & Hour Seminar will be a single day on Thursday, September 24th from 8am to 3:30pm.

The event will be packed with fantastic information on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Record Retention! This event is approved for 6 RCH's from APA and for 6 PDC's from SHRM for those that need re-certification in either Payroll or HR!

Agenda: 2020 Wage & Hour Agenda

UPDATE: Due to the climate we are all facing, the Statewide will be a hybrid meeting. All the speakers will be presented virtually. Attendees will be given the option to attend in-person or online. Provided the in-person option is permitted. We have secured all 6 speakers with 4 presentations already submitted for RCH approval. We are closing on the final two for a great day of RCH education.

Our Chapter will be hosting the Statewide Conference in 2020. Our Friday, November 6th meeting will be converted to all day Statewide conference. We are applying for 6 RCHs. We will have vendors. We are always looking for more vendors/sponsors. If your company or one of your vendors are interested in this event, please contact me directly.

We have secured Larry Whte as our keynote speaker for the conference. Larry White, CPP is a Director of Payroll Training for the American Payroll Association.

Members are able to attend this event for $125 in-person. 6 RCHs, lunch, same Airport location, friends and a Friday out of the office. We are offering an online option as well for $100. IF the Statewide is converted to an online option only, every in-person attendee will receive a $25 credit toward their 2021 Chapter membership.

Education has being compiled and have been submitted for RCH approval. Agenda is listed on the Statewide page for your review. SIGN UP TODAY!!

We are looking for speakers in 2021. Topics such garnishments/child supports, e-Verify, Payroll Accounting, Non-Resident Alien processing and How to Change Payroll Dates are examples. Any of these topics or something else where a subject matter expert is willing to present will be welcomed.

If you or one of your vendors have the ability to present to our group please contact me to schedule your presentation.

The easily accepted topics are listed on this website, Please review the list and contact me to schedule your speaking opportunity.

Our membership group should be able to supply and support a diverse group of educational opportunities for our Chapter.

Please contact Tina Frysinger, the Chapter's Education Director, for further information.

We are looking to re-establish and expand this service in 2020. We are the only local payroll Chapter on the western side of the Appalachian Mountains. That means we are the only resource for over 75% of Pennsylvania and 99% of West Virginia as well as good portions of Kentucky and Virginia. Since our Chapter offers a consistent program of at least 18 RCHs annually, our Chapter is prime to expand our outreach to these underserved areas. Other locations could develop as hosts become available. This process will be managed based on a demographic area/zone to ensure our limited bandwidth and resources are managed wisely. Some desired locations include:

  • Somerset (Bedford & Somerset counties)
  • Uniontown (Fayette & Greene counties)
  • Morgantown, WV (Marion, Monogalia, Preston & Taylor counties)
  • Charleston, WV (serving a very large area)
  • Huntington, WV (serving a large area)
  • Youngstown, OH
  • Saint Clairsville, OH

Our goal is to create learning opportunities for more payroll professionals while making it more convenient on everyone's travel concerns. To ensure we stay compliant with any APA concerns, we will treat each satellite location just as the Pittsburgh site. Attendees would need to meet in a central location, sign in and attend the meeting, upon completion of the meeting receive their RCHs for their time and attendance. All of this at a reduced cost versus the rate at the Pittsburgh location since we will not be providing lunch at the satellite locations.
